Nick Viall as The Bachelor

Chris Harrison Explains Why Nick Viall Is The Next Bachelor

Is the FOURTH time the charm for Nick Viall? Or just pathetically famewhorey?

That is the question facing Bachelor Nation this morning. In case you missed it, Nick, who was runner-up on Andi‘s season of the Bachelorette, then hijacked Kaitlyn‘s season of the Bachelorette and was runner up again, then failed to find love on Bachelor in Paradise, was announced as the next The Bachelor lead, which many thought would be one of JoJo Fletcher‘s rejects, specifically Luke Pell or Chase McNary.

Chris Harrison, the most dramatic reality TV host ever, appeared on GMA this morning to explain the decision.

“Ultimately, at the end of the day when we were discussing all of the candidates, and Luke and Chase were definitely on the board, it just got down to that final question of, who is the most deserving? Who is the most sincere? Who would we watch time and time again really come on this show and find love and just come up short each and every time? While Luke and Chase are good guys, we all just kept coming back to Nick,” said Chris. “It’s just crazy enough to work.”

Chris joked said in all seriousness, like it’s the first time we’ve ever heard this, “It might be the most dramatic season ever.”

Does Chris think Nick is really looking for Mrs. Right and not, you know, just an attention whore and/or Bachelor Nation junkie?

“I do,” he said. “Listen, the good news is, it’s worked for him. He has fallen in love on the show. He has sincerely tried to make it work; unfortunately, he’s just come up a little bit short each time. But he’s done his part. He will give himself to this process. Again, at the end of the day, this wasn’t an indictment on Luke or Chase as much as it was a compliment to Nick, in that he is that sincere guy who really does want to make this work.”

How will Nick do as the lead?

“I’m sure he is relieved waking up this morning knowing that Josh Murray will not be there beside him to compete for the woman,” snarked Chris. “He is free and clear now.”

Chris added, “Being the guy, and then having 25-30 women, will definitely help because he’s sincere. He will be there and then to have that many women there to find love..it does not guarantee it will work; things happen on The Bachelor; but it definitely helps his odds.”

Is Chris shocked by the outrage and backlash on social media after the “Nick Viall is The Bachelor” announcement?

“No,” he admitted. “It shows how much people love and care about this show and I am very flattered and honored. But, yeah, when you look at social media and it is either the worst decision in the history of mankind or the greatest decision, that is a broad spectrum. You know people’s hearts are in this. They care about the show. I love and respect that, but you cannot please everybody all the time. You just can’t. If you try and please everybody, you please nobody in this business. At the end of the day, as producers, we’ve done a pretty good job for 15 years. Trust us; go on this journey with Nick; I think you’ll be happy.”

As for Luke, rumor has it that he was the front-runner, but he started to second guess and waited too long to commit. “Thx for all the love,” he tweeted after the announcement. “Sometimes we are faced with unexpected changes. I’m happy to be back in Nash. Excited for the future.”

Well, I, for one, doubt I will be happy. I have had enough of Nick at this point.

I’ve long since given up on the idea that maybe, just maybe, the powers that be will choose a non-recycled lead. But, I mean, come on!! How many chances will this guy get?! But, to be honest, I will watch. But not for the right reasons. The wrong reasons side of me hopes the final two women decide they’re in love and ride off in the limo together, leaving Nick as the runner-up of his own season. #TeamLuke #WrongReasons #WhereAreQuinnAndRachelWhenYouNeedThem

TELL US – ARE YOU HAPPY NICK WAS CHOSEN TO BE THE BACHELOR? IF NOT, WHO WOULD BE YOUR CHOICE? WILL YOU WATCH?
