Caitlyn Jenner Probably Not Facing Criminal Charges for Vehicular Homicide

Caitlyn Jenner leaves Patricia Field's store

Caitlyn Jenner has been in the 2015 zeitgeist more than Madonna circa late ’80s, but today a piece of news is cropping up that’s been dogging Caitlyn since winter. Back in February of this year, when Cailtyn was Bruce Jenner, she was involved in a Malibu car crash that left one woman, Kim Howe, dead.

Shortly after the crash, Howe’s two adult stepchildren attempted to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Bruce claiming, “Bruce was ‘careless and negligent’ when he slammed into Howe’s Lexus on PCH…causing it to careen into oncoming traffic where it collided head on with a Hummer.” But TMZ is reporting today that the initial settlement shows the accident to be tragic, but not criminal.

Although the former Keeping up with the Kardashians star did not slow down enough in time to avoid the crash, TMZ reports that criminal charges are rarely filed for vehicular manslaughter unless there was some sort of real negligence on the driver’s part.

TMZ sources explain that the 161-page report from the LA County Sheriff’s Department “thought it was relevant Jenner braked several seconds before impact in an attempt to avoid hitting a Lexus.”

While Caitlyn dealt with lawsuits stemming from the February crash, daughter Kylie Jenner recently refused to video record a deposition for her 2013 car accident, to which she admitted fault. One victim, not happy with the $20k settlement Kylie’s camp offered, is instead taking Kylie to court. Kylie’s refusal to video record a deposition for the case is reported as stemming from her fear that the footage would be “leaked” for publicity.

As for Caitlyn’s case, while prosecution does not look likely, TMZ is told that the case should be definitively decided within the week, most likely in Caitlyn’s favor.
