Following his eviction in the Big Brother house last week, Lawon Exum’s decision, to not only have himself nominated but also evicted from the game in other to get “special powers” that didn’t exist, will arguably go down as the worst game play in the show’s history.
In a new interview with Digital Spy, the 39-year-old legal clerk expresses a lot of regret as he tries to explain his thought process in his decision. Lawon reveals he didn’t really consider he would have to battle an evicted HG to get back into the game and reveals the part his emotions played in his very very bad decision.
Excerpts from the interview below –
A lot of people would say you were crazy for offering to be put up for eviction. Why were you so willing to sacrifice yourself?
“Because I was playing on emotions, and I really felt that I was taking one for the team. And since I took one for the team, look where it got me. But emotions played a huge part of my reason for getting evicted.”
Did you really think you would be able to come back in the game after leaving?
“I actually thought I would be coming back into the game with some kind of power due to this being a game where you ‘expect the unexpected’. I overanalyzed it a bit and I did not expect the outcome that happened. The ‘chance’ of coming back didn’t sink in until I was out there competing in a competition. Do I regret that? Yes, of course. I was overanalyzing what the chance was to come back. If I didn’t overanalyze, I would have fought and never told Kalia she could put me up as a pawn. And you have to remember, when you are in that house, emotions are so high and so up and down that your thinking process is all over the place. You overanalyze every sentence, every word fragment that everyone says and every idea that is given to you in the house. So I really just blame myself for overanalyzing what the outcome would be if I got evicted and had the chance to come back.”
You seemed legitimately shocked after losing the chance to return to the game to Brendon. How did it feel to know that your chances had been diminished that quickly?
“Disappointed. It was very disappointing because I let myself down and was playing on such high emotions. I felt like this competition was for me to go back into the game and at that point I was disappointed at how the whole ‘chance’ for me to return to the house played out. At that moment, I was shocked and disappointed at myself.”
You were accused by some of the other players in the house of being a “floater”. Was this part of your game plan, to try not to make too many enemies for as long as you could?
“Yes! It was my plan initially to not make any enemies in the house so I could strategically plan a strong alliance and learn who was targeting me, and who was not targeting me.”
What did you imagine the task would be that would allow you to return to the house? Would you ever have considered that you would need to compete against a past evictee?
“Overanalyzing it, I thought the chance would be a special power. It didn’t come to my mind that I would have to compete against another housemate until the moment Julie told me not to leave the house yet. I did not think it would be a competition or anything like that. I was thinking of past seasons and different twists, and I hadn’t thought of this. Daniele did, at the last minute, suggest this could happen.”
Shelly said that she could tell you were lying about not having volunteered to be sent home. Why did you think that putting on the act was necessary?
“I thought it was necessary because Shelly was up in the room when I told Kalia that whatever she had to do, she could put me up as a pawn to further herself in the game. But in the end it bit me in the butt.”
And tonight, an all new live eviction episode of Big Brother airs on CBS at 9/8c. Following Adam’s POV win, Brendon, who just returned to the house, finds himself on the chopping block yet again. While Jeff would like to keep Brendon, so he can continue to remain the big target in the house thus taking away attention from himself, the other HGs seem ready to vote him out! We will find out tonight if Brendon can manage to survive this week. Also nominated alongside Brendon is professional Sneaky Snake Shelly.
