“A man held for $25,000 ransom in June was arrested Thursday on federal narcotics charges involving one of his alleged abductors, the FBI said.

Carmen Christopher Centolella, 27, of Hobe Sound, surrendered without incident Jupiter based on a two-count indictment returned Aug. 28 by a federal grand jury in Miami.

One of Centolella’s alleged captors, Daniel Claudio Aguilar, 23, of 3132 NW 74th St., was also charged in the same indictment. Aguilar is being held in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Southwest Dade while he awaits trial on an extortion charge stemming from Centolella’s alleged abduction.

Aguilar and Centolella were charged with conspiracy to possess and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

“The indictment alleges he was involved with Aguilar prior to the kidnapping,” said FBI spokesman Paul Miller.

Centolella was rescued by a SWAT team on June 23 after authorities said he was abducted two days earlier in an apparent dispute over a debt he owed Aguilar and two others holding him.

The two other people allegedly involved in the ransom attempt were Rogers Jones Jr., 22, of 2325 NW 59th St. and Beverly Ann Merrill, 23, 2629 S. Bayshore Dr.

All three were charged with extortion for making interstate ransom calls to Centolella’s father in Utica, N.Y. Thomas Centolella, retired manager of a Utica shoe store, reported the crime.

It was not clear at the time if the transaction was narcotics-related, but the FBI found explosives, 10 kilos of cocaine and scales in the kitchen at 8265 SW 45th St., where Centolella had been held. The house was rented by Aguilar.

Centolella was questioned and released following the June incident.”
